The Diary of Disappearance
2012
Paper, water, time, dust particles, tears, sweat, a pulled thread, my hair, a dragonfly wing, Nic’s eyelashes, a fingernail, foundation powder, a bobby pin, a broken mirror, salt from last night’s dinner, a musical note from my favourite song, my mother’s grey hair, a birthday wish, air from my previous apartment, a lost button from my grandfather’s jacket, a drop of rain, a lost earring, a blunt needle.

The Diary of Disappearance brings together small traces of everyday life — a strand of hair, a dragonfly wing, a fingernail, a lost button, a drop of rain, a birthday wish, air from a previous home.
Each fragment is held within a handmade paper form, giving presence to things that might otherwise disappear or go unnoticed.
Installed directly on the floor, the individual pieces have no fixed arrangement. Each installation is assembled anew, almost like a ritual. From a distance the work appears quiet and nearly empty; only by moving closer do the small traces begin to reveal themselves.
The viewer’s movement becomes part of the work — approaching, looking, noticing what at first appears almost invisible.
