The Cocoon
2018
Wood, yarn, thread, photographs, nails and found objects

The Cocoon emerged from my involvement in an end-of-life care project, where I encountered people living with late stage of cancer.
What stayed with me was the vitality they continued to express, even as they approached the end of life. I began to think of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon — an image of life continuing through transformation.
Through wrapping, weaving and layering, I created a form that holds fragments within it, allowing them to remain partially visible through the threads. The work grew from these encounters and from my reflections on the life that continues to unfold, even in the presence of death.
