The Inner Landscape
2011–2012
Series of paintings

The Inner Landscape explores the shifting states of an inner world — moments of heaviness and lightness, confusion and clarity, of feeling lost and found. The paintings developed through encounters with poetry, music, books and everyday life, allowing impressions and emotions to emerge through the process of painting.
Working with a limited palette of greys, whites and blacks, with occasional traces of colour, I was interested in subtle changes of tone, weight and atmosphere. Forms appear and dissolve: at times suggesting a room, a container, an opening or an enclosed space, without becoming entirely fixed.
Across the series, layers of paint, repeated marks, wiping and covering create surfaces in which something seems to be present while remaining difficult to fully grasp. Rather than describing a particular place, the paintings approach landscape as an interior space — something felt, shifting and partly unseen.
